2010 Tryout Results

6th Grade

At this time, there is only enough interest to form a single sixth grade team.  Further, the possibility of playing in the Windsor Winter League instead of Gold Crown is being weighed very seriously.  If you have strong opposition to this possibility, please contact Steve (669-7659 or basketballcoach@vachhome.com) ASAP.  We would like to invite the following players to this team:  6th grade #1-9 & 5th grade #1.

7th Grade

As stated at the end of tryouts, we believe that all 12 seventh graders deserve to be playing basketball.  Therefore, we’d like to form two teams, but have a couple of challenges:  (a) volunteer coach and (b) a few more players.  Our coaches are scouring schools looking for more players to make this happen.  If we cannot make this happen in the next week or so, we will need to revisit the decision to make two teams, which will leave some boys out.  Please direct any boys or coaches to Steve (669-7659 or basketballcoach@vachhome.com).

*** New – October 11, 2009 ***

We plan to have two teams, keeping all of the 7th grade boys.  A parents meeting is scheduled as listed below.  Please contact Steve if you did not receive email about this.

Topics:  Gold Crown logistics, fees, schedule, etc.

8th Grade

Our turnout on Sunday was very low.  This was mostly due to another 8th grade team that is being put together outside of the Loveland Junior Indians program.  It seems quite unlikely that we will find enough players to form this second team.  We are working with the other team to place some of the players that were there on Sunday.  If/when this materializes, please expect individual communications.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the LJI Gold Crown teams:

Q:  Does LJI field any girls teams?

A:  No.  The Loveland Hoops program is focused on girls basketball.

Q:  When does the season start and what is its duration?

A:  Practices typically start after the middle school season ends.  Games begin the first weekend in January and continue through the first weekend or two in March.

Q:  When and where are practices held?

A:  Practices are typically held at Loveland High from 7:30pm – 9:00pm, whenever we can get gym time.  Other practices may be scheduled at other facilities as well.

Q:  When and how many games will be played?

A:  Gold Crown games are played mostly on Sundays, but some are played on Saturdays.  Two games are scheduled for the same day, either back-to-back or with a game rest in between.  The exception is Super Bowl weekend, where only one game per team will be scheduled.

Q:  How much travel is involved with Gold Crown?

A:  The LJI Gold Crown teams play most games within northern Colorado (Longmont & north), but some additional travel may be required for games in Denver, east (e.g. Kersey) or west (e.g. Standley Lake).

Q:  What is the cost to play on an LJI Gold Crown team and what does that include?

A:  There is no cost for tryouts.  League fees for the 2010 season are $200, but scholarships may be available if there is financial need.  These fees pay for the Gold Crown league fees, jerseys, equipment and gym time.

Q:  What other parental involvement is required within the LJI Gold Crown teams?

A:  There will be a parent seminar sponsored by Gold Crown that is mandatory for at least one parent per team, but recommended to all parents.  For each game, a parent scorekeeper or clock operator is necessary.  Finally, most coaches welcome parents to come assist them with practices.

Q:  Are the coaches paid or volunteers?

A:  All of the coaches and administration within the LJI program are volunteers.  All money collected is used as described above.
